INTERNS

An Intern is a doctor in training who has a medical degree but does still need supervision.  The Road to Rural Intern Program is a joint venture with Rural Doctors Workforce Agency (RDWA) & Adelaide to Outback GP training program (AOGP) that facilitates intern rotations in Rural General practice for South Australia.

Interns rotate from Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) for a 10-week term in their year of supervised rotations.  The interns get authentic rural experience during an important decision-making year.  They are immersed in a full scope of rural practice early in their careers ensuring that Rural general practice then features as an option as they decide on a medical specialty/direction.

TRAINEE MEDICAL OFFICER

A TMO is a trainee medical officer who is undertaking further training in a specialized area which includes general practice, psychiatry and paediatrics.  As part of their training they have a supervisor who assists them with their consultations.

The RACE Program (Rural Acadamy of Clinical Excellence) has medical officers located throughout the Riverland rotating through different specialties.  Waikerie Medical Centre host rotating TMO’s on a 12 week placement.
