1. Telephone and video consultation.
The government has introduced Medicare item numbers that now make telephone and video consulting easier and viable. Our intention is to continue using this mode of consulting whenever possible to reduce the spread of COVID 19. Prescription and INR clinics are all via remote consultation now. Whilst phone consults still available will no longer be bulk billed.
We are offering this mode to all our patients and it is supplemented by the effort of our local pharmacy who are offering a delivery service for those who meet the criteria. We appreciate that some procedures and issues require a face to face consult as do those in our community with hearing difficulties so these are available.
2. If unwell
Please call the medical centre or hospital for advice. Do not present at either place without doing this as you may then be putting yourself and us at risk of contracting COVID or facing compulsory quarantine. If you are invited in after a call you may be asked to remain in your vehicle until called. You may also be advised to use a different entry.
3. COVID 19 testing
COVID-19 testing is able to be undertaken at the medical centre and hospital should individuals meet the government testing criteria set by SA Health. However, if you are a returned traveller, seeking testing as part of your employment or as directed by your employer or under direction by SA Health you may be asked to present to a SA Health Testing clinic. As we need to be available for all our patients and to do with medical emergencies, we do not always have the capacity to accommodate COVID testing requests. In these instances you will be asked to attend a SA Health COVID testing clinic also. Please understand that we are limited by these rules and our resources.
COVID tests can be booked via the Waikerie Hospital or you can attend a collection centre at the Riverland General Hospital; COVID tests undertaken at WMC will be charged accordingly.
4. ED at Waikerie Hospital
You may have heard on the news that the emergency departments at some country hospitals have been closed. Waikerie Health Service is not one of them and will remain open for emergencies.
